Breast Enlargement

Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of the breasts. This can achieve balance between bust size and the rest of your body and improve confidence and self esteem. Breast augmentation can also correct a reduction in volume after pregnancy. Women of any age can have breast enlargement as long as their health is good.

Placement of Implants

There are two main options for placement of the implants.

• Between the breast tissue and the chest muscle
• Behind the large chest muscle called the pectoralis

Each position has its advantages and disadvantages, your surgeon will provide you with further details and discuss which option is right for you.

Will the procedure leave any scars?

As with any surgery scars are inevitable, however they are usually barely noticeable and fade with time.

When can normal activities be resumed?

Returning to work varies with the individual, and may be after only a couple of days. Normal activities can be resumed within 2-3 weeks. Excessive exercise may have to be avoided for a little longer depending on the person.

Are there any side effects?

Some bruising and swelling may occur and a 'tight' feeling across the chest might be experienced. A capsule of scar tissue can form which makes the breast feel firm and the implant may settle in either a high or low position, but these can be dealt with by the surgeon. Implants do not cause breast cancer or any other diseases, nor do they interfere with breast feeding.
