Breast Reduction
What is Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure to reduce large or sagging breasts and make them a more comfortable size and shape. This is a common procedure for women who experience pain in the shoulders, back or lower neck because of the large size of their breasts. It can also be performed to reduce skin iiritation in the breast folds or to allow a greater range of physical activity. This procedure improves posture, overall appearance of the breasts and often your self-esteem.
Will hospitalisation be necessary?
Breast reduction usually requires 1-3 days in hospital and is performed under general anaesthesia. There are different techniques that may be used to perform breast reduction surgery often depending on your individual needs and breast size and shape. Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.
When can normal activities be resumed?
Most people are back to work after 2 weeks depending on the type of work they perform, but it may take 3-4 weeks before strenuous exercise can be resumed.
Are there any side effects?
There may be a change in the sensation of the nipple. There are scars involved with a breast reduction but they generally fade over 6-12 months. Most people feel that the scars resulting from the procedure are worth the final result. A more detailed list of possible complications will be explained to you during your consultation.
