What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids to remove excess skin and fat from around the eyes. This procedure removes bags and wrinkles from around the eyes. Blepharoplasty will reduce the effects of aging and give you a rested, youthful appearance. Eyelid reduction surgery can correct both the aesthetic and visual probelms associated with excess skin and or fatty tissue in the upper and or lower eyelids. Eyelid correction surgery is one of the most common plastic surgery operations. They can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial surgery.

Will hospitalisation be necessary?

Blepharoplasty is often performed under local anaesthetic as a day procedure. If a general anaesthetic is required a short stay in hospital may be necessary.

When can normal activities be resumed?

Most people return to work after 7-10 days depending upon what type of work they do. Cosmetics can usually be applied after this time.

Are there any side effects?

Bruising and swelling around the eyes is common and can last up to 3 weeks. A more detailed list of possible complications will be explained to you during your consultation.
