It may be reassuring to know that almost 60% of the population has abnormal or unsightly leg veins. Women suffer this condition more than men and it’s more common with increasing age.
Whilst genetics and family history are strong contributing factors, you can also develop these problems through:
These are fine, superficial veins that may appear reddish or bluish, either alone, in clusters or in sprays. They may stem from feeding or reticular veins (the larger, bluish vessels).
These are abnormally dilated veins that may bulge above the surface of the skin. This is caused by dysfunction of the valves within the veins or an underlying problem with the deep venous system. Varicose veins often create aching and other symptoms.
Apart from examining your legs, our doctor will ask a little about your general medical history as well as, specifically, about your veins. In some cases, we may need to investigate further with an ultrasound.
Once we understand the problem, we can then choose one of the following three therapies available to us at Adelaide Plastic Surgery.
