This surgical procedure removes the excess fat and skin, and tightens your abdominal muscles, especially after you’ve had a baby or shed a lot of weight. It can also assist if you have scars from previous surgery. Please don’t regard abdominoplasty as a means of weight loss in itself, however.
Occasionally, some people can have an abdominoplasty performed and go home on the same day. Usually, however, it will require one to two days in hospital. It all depends on your general health and the extent of the procedure.
You can usually return to work within two to four weeks and get back to more strenuous exercise after six weeks. It’s quite regular (if not the height of fashion) to wear a supportive girdle for up to six weeks after your surgery, to ensure you’ll heal well and support your new body shape.
As with any surgery, there is a risk of infection. This would, however, be easily treated with a course of antibiotics. You can also experience a feeling of tightness in the lower abdomen and a slight numbness that could persist for several months. Don’t worry, though: your surgeon will explain any possible complications during your consultation and we’re always here to support you through recovery.
