Pigmentation Treatment

At Adelaide Plastic Surgery we are pleased to be home to one of the largest ranges of Medical Grade Lasers in Australia. When it comes to unwanted pigmentation, we use the Enlighten Picosecond Laser, an industry leading advanced laser system for the effective and safe removal of benign pigmented lesions.

Whatever your skin concern may be, one of our experienced laser nurses will work towards achieving the aesthetic results you’re seeking.

Further Information

What can we treat?

Using the Pico Enlighten Laser, our registered nurses are able to treat any flat, brown-pigmented spots including:

  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Suitable birthmarks

It may also be used in combination with our Excel V Genesis laser in our laser rejuvenation treatments.

It is important to mention this type of laser is not suitable for the treatment of malignant (cancerous) lesions, or those where the skin is thickened or raised. For these skin concerns we recommend a referral to see one of our specialist plastic surgeons, who will be pleased to guide you through a treatment plan best suited to your clinical needs.

How does the Enlighten Laser work?

Melanin is what gives colour to our skin, but when it occurs in high concentrations it can result in undesirable brown spots and uneven skin tone. The Enlighten Laser works by targeting this excess melanin, without damaging your surrounding skin.

During your treatment laser light is absorbed by the targeted melanin, causing the pigment to break into tiny particles. These particles are then small enough to be reabsorbed by your body’s natural cleaning system – known as the Lymphatic System. Over time this process will result in the removal of unwanted pigment.

The Enlighten Laser is the first laser system to feature both nanosecond and picosecond pulse durations. This duel technology allows our experienced nurses to modify the laser according to your individual needs to best achieve your desired results.

Your Consultation

At Adelaide Plastic Surgery we offer complimentary, no obligation consultations with our experienced laser nurses. During this consultation you will experience a full facial analysis and have a treatment plan tailored to your individual aesthetic needs.

We often find that our patients have various skin concerns. In some cases these are best treated with a combination of lasers in order to get you an optimal result. This is one of the benefits of coming to Adelaide Plastic Surgery – our extensive range of lasers allows us to tailor a laser to match your specific skin needs, rather than having a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

We recommend that you allow 15-30 minutes for this consultation. Please keep this in mind when organising parking so that you don’t feel the need to rush. There is the possibility for your treatment to be done on the same day as your consultation depending on the availability of the laser.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Post treatment the area may feel like its sunburnt and be a little bit itchy. The skin may appear dry and flaky, which usually resolves within a week. Initially the area will often become darker with some redness before fading.

It is important to remember on-going sun exposure can cause new pigment to form, so adhering to proper sun safety and using a broad spectrum sunscreen when outside is recommended.

80% of common pigmented lesions are removed with only one treatment. In some cases, however, you will require repeat treatments.

What are the possible complications?

Whilst this laser is very safe, when using any laser there is a risk of hyper-pigmentation (skin darkening) or hypo-pigmentation (skin lightening). To guard against this we may perform a patch test and monitor the area for 4-6 weeks before initial treatment.

Pricing

We are pleased to offer complimentary, no obligation consultations with our laser nurses, where you can discuss your treatment plan and be given an estimate for your specific treatment.

Most treatments we perform fall within the 5-10 minute timeframe, depending on the size of the area needing to be treated.
